The charismatic and multi-talented, Australian-born Harry Dean LEWIS ventures out into a solo career with a unique sound. He presents his new solo single “Damn” with an exceptional music video, in which he cooperated with renowned artist Marko ZINK. The first presentation will be conducted in digital form on March 26th, 2021 at 12:00 on the singer’s YouTube channel: “I wanted to attack issues more independently, though still stay true to my love of groove, and explore a new sound”, said the musician and singer. Inspired by the under-water photo series “swimmers” by Marko Zink, the music video captures the same gorgeous, multifaceted and eerie atmosphere, as the photos. The main protagonist in this video “falls” into the darkness of her own thoughts again and again. Harry Dean Lewis: “The music video portrays how agonising some of our demons can be. And that we all have them.”
The works of renowned artist Marko Zink are integral parts of large art collections, one of which is the Leopold Museum in Vienna. His photos are exhibited internationally. Marko Zink: “First and foremost, I simply found the intersection and combination of various artistic disciplines exciting, since I combine painting and film in my art; Painting by boiling of the film (note: Marko Zink boils his analog films), Film, since the photography tells a story. That’s why the idea of a music video wasn’t that far-fetched. Fascinating, especially, as photography captures a fleeting moment and it now becomes alive and tells a completely new story.”
The cooperation for this video began as a project among long-time friends. Harry Dean Lewis and the director of the music video, Magda Pressel, have known one another since he moved to Vienna in 2012, and have always talked about collaborating on a music video. This finally happened in 2020 and resulted in an artistic, complex video, which demands much more artistically than being a pleasing music video.
As stated by Harry Dean Lewis: “We were just sitting, drinking coffee, leaned against a wall and hiding from the rain, when she told me about her idea. By the time she had finished explaining the music video lodged in her head, the sun appeared – we took that as a sign.” On her debut music video, the producer and director: “It was a pure home-production!”, and adds: “To transform this vision that I had harbored in my head for such a long time, with such exceptional artists, was amazing.” Harry Dean Lewis, nodding, reciprocates: “It was a fruitful and intense cooperation, and it was exciting to experience the various thought processes and how everything came together like puzzle pieces. I’m really happy with how everything worked out and how well the contrast of the sensitive photos, which Marko creates with his underwater photography, works with the song’s directness. It’s has a definite push and pull feeling to it.” (PRESS RELEASE | Music Video | HARRY DEAN LEWIS | new single “DAMN” | INSPIRED by the PHOTOGRAPHY of MARKO ZINK)
